The GTA Definitive Edition remaster sold a whopping 10 million copies at launch, but our tracking shows that the game has faded significantly over the past two quarters. There’s a big reason for that: the game is largely considered a failure among Rockstar fans due to graphical issues, technical problems, and a disastrously controversial release that has soured public opinion.

Sales figures reflect this sentiment. According to Take-Two Interactive’s recent investor filing, the GTA franchise has sold 380 million copies to date. A little math yields figures for the trilogy collection. GTA franchise shipments increased by 5 million units and total franchise shipments also increased by 5 million. That takes the trilogy out of the equation with less than 1 million sales.

Note that these are physical sales or shipment numbers and do not include digital sales. The trilogy may have made many more sales digitally, but recent revenues for the GTA franchise show a drop to pre-pandemic levels.
