Elon Musk has said that Tesla will consider adopting Apple’s AirPlay protocol to improve its audio quality control over the current Bluetooth system.
Over the last few years, Tesla has emphasized its passion for sound systems by ensuring that its vehicles have the highest sound quality. Its latest version of the Model S and Model 3 has received positive reviews from audiophiles.
In the past, Tesla’s audio system has always been compared to a Bang & Olufsen system, which is often found in premium vehicles, however, for a fraction of the price. Musk used Twitter to comment on the comparison:
Tesla’s audio engineers come from B&O and many other companies. They literally rock. Our system is highly programmable, so we continue to improve it with OTA codec updates.
For years, Tesla owners have been wondering about the possibility of adopting Apple AirPlay, which uses Wi-Fi adopts instead of Bluetooth. The owners suggested that since Tesla vehicles are equipped with Wi-Fi, the implementation of AirPlay would provide a lossless transmission. Musk commented on this and stated that a solution would be discussed with the audio equipment.
In the past, Tesla has been reluctant to integrate Apple software into its vehicles. For example, Apple CarPlay is a feature that Tesla owners have previously requested. However, Tesla chose to continue with its own software ecosystem.
We’ll talk about this and other improvements with Tesla’s audio engineering. The new Model S and X sound system is amazing.
