Hawaii social media model arrested for murder

HILO, Hawaii (AP) — Law enforcement in Hawaii arrested social media model Courtney Clenney Wednesday on charges of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.

Hawaii County police said in a statement that they assisted the U.S. Marshals Service when they arrested the 26-year-old in Laupahoehoe, which is on the Big Island. Officers used an arrest warrant issued by Miami-Dade County, Florida.

Police are holding him at the East Hawaii Detention Center pending his initial appearance in Hilo District Court on Thursday.

The police statement did not elaborate on the charges against her, but the Miami Herald reported that Clenney is accused of fatally stabbing her boyfriend in April.

His Miami defense attorney, Frank Prieto, told the Miami Herald that he was in Hawaii while in rehab for substance abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder.

“I’m completely shocked, especially since we were cooperating with the investigation and offered to surrender her voluntarily if she was charged,” Prieto said. “We hope to clear his name in court.”
