Traffic has returned to normal after a fatal collision between a vehicle and a cyclist on Highway 97 near Parkinson’s Dr.

The freeway stretch between Beaver Lake Rd. and Old Vernon Rd. has been backed up since the deadly collision Tuesday morning.

The Kelowna RCMP is asking accident witnesses to come forward and contact police at 250-762-3300.

Southbound traffic on Highway 97 moves, but northbound traffic on Beaver Lake Rd. past the Jammery is still slow after a fatal collision between a vehicle and a cyclist on Tuesday morning.

Traffic on Glenmore Rd heading north. it is also slow in part due to the volume of traffic, as drivers are using Glenmore to avoid the scene of the fatal collision at the intersection of Parkinson’s Dr. and Highway 97.

UPDATE: 8:42 p.m.

According to the Kelowna RCMP, a collision between a cyclist and a motor vehicle at the intersection of Parkinson’s Dr. and Highway 97 has become deadly.

Crossing traffic has been reduced to one-way traffic in both directions.

Police are asking motorists and pedestrians to avoid the intersection at this time and will provide an update as soon as more details are available.

Highway 97 is crawling south of Lake Country.

An accident near Duck Lake has caused massive delays on both the freeway and Glenmore Road.

Motorists say the highway was initially cut off for a while, but one-lane alternative traffic has been restored.

Drivers should expect significant delays as they travel around the area.
