A 51-year-old motorcyclist has tragically died following a collision involving a tractor and trailer on the main Newport to Yarmouth road at Shalfleet yesterday afternoon (Thursday).
Emergency services were called to the A3054 Yarmouth Road just before 4.35pm to reports of a serious collision, in which a black Kawasaki motorcycle had collided with an agricultural trailer being towed by a tractor.
The road between Pound Lane and Elm Lane was closed in both directions as medics and police responded to the crash, which happened near the stop.

However, it soon became clear that nothing could be done to save the pilot’s life and the 51-year-old man from Shalfleet was pronounced dead at the scene. An air ambulance which had left from Thruxton was stopped en route.
The man’s family have been informed and are being supported by officers at this time.
No arrests have been made with eyewitnesses that satisfy the Police’s initial investigations into the causes of the events.
However, Hampshire Police say they would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the motorcycle in the time leading up to the incident.
