Five more arrests after the second violent night on Toronto beach

Police arrested five people on Monday after a violent second night in Toronto’s Ashbridges Bay, which included a teenager pointing fireworks at a crowd and stabbing a 23-year-old man.

This follows the arrest of 19 people at Woodbine Beach the night before after seven officers were injured, two people were shot, one was stabbed and two others were robbed at gunpoint.

Officers allege that for several hours Monday night, three people were arrested for making fireworks. This included a 19-year-old man who allegedly aimed fireworks at a crowd of people. The other two were released unconditionally, according to police.

Police say two people were also arrested on a TTC bus after making threats with a handgun, which was later recovered and considered a retort. One of the people was later released without charge.

The stabbing of a 23-year-old man during an altercation on Monday is being actively investigated, but police have not given details of whether he was involved in the arrests.

Nineteen-year-old Harristen Kumaraguru of Toronto faces charges of common nuisance, carrying a concealed weapon and dangerous weapons, while 18-year-old Quame Marcus Manahan, also of Toronto, faces a charge of common nuisance.

Investigators ask anyone who has videos, pictures, or has witnessed any of the events to call them at 416-808-5504 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
