Get ready for a bunch of new emojis that we all haven’t seen before
Already an emoji-friendly messaging app, Telegram is tripling down and getting angry with emoticons and shining bright with its latest feature updates. These changes will revolutionize the way you use them, but some of them will come at a cost (of course).
As we previously explained while it was still under wraps, Telegram Premium subscribers will have the privilege of using 500 emoji from 10 brand new custom packs in the app in messages and black captions with some of them accessible via shortcuts based on two dots ( : shortcut ). Plus, anyone can send emoji packs if they’re self-created! These emoji can be static or animated, but must be packaged in Telegram’s proprietary .webm or .tgs format. Designers can refer to the full format guide for the new Open Emoji Platform for more details.

The company’s blog also details a new batch of special interactive emoji animations for one-on-one conversations. Premium users can also use them as reactions.
Regular users will be able to see custom animated emoji and increase the reaction counter with animated emoji.
Premium members can also restrict who can send them voice and video messages (from everyone to contacts to just no one), which should come in handy for those particularly nasty uninvited messages.
Finally, if all of this sounds tempting, you can have someone gift you a Telegram Premium subscription for 3, 6, or 12 months at a time. If this is how the company wants to get people to support the platform, this could become a significant way to do so.
