The actor, who was not present for the verdict, was photographed at The Bridge Tavern in Newcastle on Wednesday evening. He arrives when Mr. Depp has been in Britain performing on stage for three nights in a row with musician Jeff Beck.
The actor sued his ex-wife for $ 50 million for his 2018 article in the Washington Post entitled, “I spoke out against sexual violence and confronted the anger of our culture. That must change.”
The piece does not mention Mr. Depp’s name, but his lawyers said it falsely implied that he physically and sexually abused Mrs. Heard while they were together.
After six weeks of rehearsals and about 13 hours of deliberation, the jurors returned a verdict in favor of Depp on Wednesday.
The plaintiff received compensatory compensation of $ 10 million (£ 8 million) and another $ 5 million (£ 4 million) in punitive damages.
Following the verdict, Depp said in a statement that he was “humiliated” that the jury had “returned my life.”
He said: “From the outset, the purpose of this case was to reveal the truth, regardless of the outcome.
“It simply came to our notice then.
“I feel at peace knowing that I have finally made it.
“I am, and have been, overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and the colossal support and kindness around the world.
“I hope that my search for the truth has helped others, men and women, who have found themselves in my situation, and that those who support them will never give up.
“I also hope that now the charge will be innocent again until the guilt is proven, both in the courts and in the media.”
Mrs. Heard, who was present for the verdict, appeared dejected as the judge read the sentence.
But he was awarded $ 2 million (£ 1.6 million) in damages after his counterclaim against Mr. Depp for the comments of his lawyer Adam Waldman, who allegedly referred to his abuse claims as a “deception” was also defamatory.
The actress said she had a “broken heart” after the verdict.
She said: “The disappointment I feel today is beyond words.
“It hurts me that the mountain of evidence was still not enough to resist my ex – husband ‘s disproportionate power, influence and dominance.
“I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means to other women.”
Heard said the verdict “delays the clock at a time when a woman who spoke and spoke could be publicly embarrassed and humiliated.”
He added that Depp’s lawyers had managed to get members of the jury to “overlook” freedom of expression.
She said: “I’m sad to have lost this case. But I’m even sadder because he seems to have lost a right he thought he had as an American: to speak freely and openly.”
Huge crowds of fans gathered in front of the Fairfax County District Court before the verdict.
