Microsoft reveals that Xbox Cloud Gaming has more than 10 million players, as Stadia continues to silence the guides

Today, during the company’s Build conference, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella officially confirmed how many players use Xbox Cloud Gaming – more than 10 million.

Formerly known as xCloud, Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming was released to the general public in late 2020 after a long public preview. The streaming game is available as part of the Xbox Game Pass, specifically the “Ultimate” level of the monthly subscription. There are hundreds of games available to play in the cloud, and Microsoft even updated the backend last year to have cloud games powered by the Xbox Series X.

How many players use Xbox Cloud Gaming?

Today at Build, Sataya Nadella has revealed the popularity of the company’s cloud efforts. As of 2022, Xbox Cloud Gaming has served more than 10 million gamers in 26 countries around the world. This is an impressive statistic, especially considering that the service has only been widely available for less than two years.

Nadella’s full quote is as follows:

We carry Xbox everywhere with Xbox Cloud Gaming. More than 10 million Xbox gamers have played streaming games in 26 countries.

However, there is no direct comparison with this statistic. Nvidia previously shared that during its first year, GeForce Now had accumulated more than 175 million hours of gaming for gamers. Last September, Nvidia updated this statistic, saying that more than 12 million gamers use the service in 70 countries. It is also worth noting that Nvidia had a few months’ advantage in the launch of Microsoft.

For almost three years now, we don’t have any official metrics on how many players Google Stadia has seen.

Not surprisingly, so far Microsoft has been so successful with Xbox Cloud Gaming. The service works quite well and is widely available. Whether through a console, a smartphone or a computer, it is a similar experience that is affordable and, above all, perfect.

The most surprising thing about this statistic, in any case, is that Microsoft lags behind Nvidia in terms of the number of players. While there is probably room for maneuver in how these statistics were counted, it seems clear that GeForce Now has more players right now, probably due to its more flexible restrictions in countries and its level of free service.

But that only reminds us where Stadia is. Google has been silent since day one about significant usage statistics, and the little details we’ve heard aren’t exactly promising. This doesn’t necessarily mean that Stadia doesn’t play at the same stadium as Xbox Cloud Gaming, but frankly, that’s incredibly unlikely. I’d love to see Stadia’s stats right now, and I’d love to be shown that I’m wrong. But…
