Amazon offers a new and tidier way for shoppers to buy a PS5. You can request an invitation right here on the console’s product page (it’s on the right, where there would normally be a “buy” button) and the company says that if you choose, you’ll receive an email with a link to buy one in 72 hours. Also, you do not need to be a Prime subscriber to request an invitation.
So far, this invitation-based system seems to be only running for the more expensive $ 499.99 version of the PlayStation 5 that includes a Blu-ray disc drive, not the digital version. If you want to increase your chances of getting one (even if you’re unlucky soon), Sony has been offering registrations continuously for a long time so that they can be considered an invitation to buy a PS5 directly. All you need is a PSN ID.
Amazon’s moment of this new invitation system debuted with an interesting moment, or I’m reading a little too much. To cheer on Walmart Plus Weekend (Walmart’s version on Amazon Prime Day), Walmart Plus subscribers will have the opportunity today at 3pm ET to buy a PS5 from the retailer.
Console stocks have been slower to arrive in 2022, and the PS5 is one of the few current tech items that has yet to meet high demand. The Xbox Series X and S Series have been easier to find in stock, as well as Nintendo’s OLED Switch and several high-end PC gaming graphics cards.
