The January 6 committee announces that the first hearing at peak time will feature unpublished material and eyewitness testimony

The notice does not include any testimony for the hearing, but says more details will be released next week.

“The committee will present previously unseen material documented on January 6, receive testimony from witnesses, preview additional hearings, and provide the American people with a summary of its findings on the coordinated effort and several steps to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and avoid a transfer of power, “said the committee.

CNN previously reported that the committee was expected to hold its first hearing that day and that it would take place at prime time.

Thursday’s announcement is the committee’s first formal notice of its schedule for upcoming hearings, and the panel has kept its list of potential witnesses under very close scrutiny over the past few weeks.

The first hearing will be a broad view of the panel’s 10-month investigation and will set the stage for subsequent hearings, which are expected to cover certain topics or topics, sources told CNN.

Although the set-up of the hearings has been a work in progress and evolving, sources point out, the presentations are likely to include video clips from January 6, as well as some of the nearly 1,000 interviews the committee has conducted behind closed doors. . This could help the committee share more testimonies as well as deal with potentially recalcitrant witnesses.

CNN also reported Thursday that the committee has begun contacting witnesses informing them of the panel’s desire to appear as part of its upcoming public hearings, which will begin later this month.

CNN has learned that two people, directly linked to former Vice President Mike Pence, are among those who have received invitations to appear. Former Pence chief lawyer Greg Jacob and former federal judge J. Michael Luttig have received information from the committee about his possible testimony.

In addition to Luttig and Jacob, CNN has learned that former Pence chief of staff Marc Short is also expected to be called to testify.

The three men have already been interviewed in private by committee investigators. In some cases, his testimony has already been used by the committee as part of court records and requests for subpoenaing of other potential witnesses in his investigation.
