Other spectators were also heard applauding the couple.
The boos came from crowds on the south side of the square in front of the cathedral. These were the spectators with the best view of the greats and the good ones climbing the cathedral stairs.
“They had a few parties”
Speculating on the cause of the boos, an Australian tourist, present in the crowd, said of Mr and Mrs Johnson: “They had a few parties during the confinement. That was pretty much the case.
“It may be the wrong place, but if that’s what they do, it’s up to them. I don’t think that’s what most people feel, but everyone has their own opinions, and there are a lot of opinions.”
Meanwhile, great joy arose when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived and were received at the great west gate by the Dean of St Paul’s.
They spent a few minutes talking to the senior clergyman before entering the place of worship and proceeded to greet the long line of clerics participating in the Thanksgiving service today.
Harry paused to chat for a few moments with the Archbishop of York, who will later give the sermon and is expected to praise the Queen’s 70th reign.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also received a warm welcome. Applause and shouts rang out as they climbed the stairs. The duchess was dressed in pale yellow; the duke briefly greeted the crowd as he walked.
