Dozens of streets in Liverpool were closed as hundreds celebrated the Platinum Jubilee with street parties.

Camping chairs, foldable tables, life-size cutouts of the Queen, and lots of food took over dozens of streets in Merseyside as people celebrated Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. The UK is in the middle of a special and extended bank holiday weekend as the Queen becomes the only British monarch to rule for 70 years.

While most street parties are scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday, a number were kicking off earlier.

Parties were held on Leicester Road, Bootle, Allington Street, Aigburth, Elm Drive, Seaforth and Brookland Road, Old Swan.

Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside, Mark Blundell, said: “As the Platinum Jubilee Weekend approaches, I would ask you to reflect on the outstanding commitment that Her Majesty The Queen as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother has made to the nation and the Commonwealth. Many festivities will take place over the Bank Holiday weekend, and I would encourage you where possible to raise a glass (or two) to give thanks to a remarkable lady and long may she reign.”
