It comes days after the actor won a defamation case against his ex-wife and fellow actor Amber Heard, earning more than $ 10 million in damages after a lengthy, public trial.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star received $ 10 million (£ 8 million) in compensation and another $ 5 million (£ 4 million) in punitive damages from a jury yesterday.
The actor sued the Aquaman star for an article titled, “I spoke out against sexual violence and confronting the anger of our culture. That needs to change.”
The piece did not mention Johnny Depp by name, but his lawyers said it falsely implied that he physically and sexually abused Heard while they were together.
Heard also earned $ 2 million (£ 1.6 million) after the jury found she was defamed by a Depp lawyer when she described her allegations of abuse as misleading.
He chose not to hear the verdict in person and instead went out for a drink with Jeff and fellow musician Sam Fender in Newcastle.
