The superstar singer and professional footballer met on the set of “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” by Shakira, which was the official song of the 2010 World Cup.

Shakira told Entertainment Tonight that Gerard, who was playing in the World Cup at the time, told her, “I’m going to win this World Cup so I can see you in the final.”
The two share two children together: nine-year-old Milan and seven-year-old Sasha.

“We are sorry to confirm that we are separating,” the two said in a joint statement to E! News.
“For the well-being of our children, who are our top priority, we ask that you respect their privacy,” the statement said. “Thanks for your understanding.”
