‘No Man’s Sky’ features space whales with the Leviathan update

A new update for No Man’s Sky has been released today (May 25) with the Leviathan update bringing a number of exciting new additions to the survival game.

Announcing the new expedition, developer Hello Games explained that “our seventh expedition catches travelers in a time loop and offers a roguelike-like gameplay. The difficulty is adjusted to the survival mode setting, and each death means a loop reset “.

By exploring the loop, players will gain “memory fragments” and will also have the opportunity to work with other players around the world to gain “better upgrades, more inventory space, and stronger tools and starships.”

“As players look for a way to unleash the curse of the time loop, they will find a story-based adventure at the heart of the expedition,” Hello Games continued. “All the broken memories point to an encounter with an ancient space creature, the Leviathan, but will travelers be able to reshape history or will they be doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past?”

That’s right, the Leviathan upgrade also introduces a giant space whale to No Man’s Sky with players getting the chance to recruit it as an organic addition to your capital ship’s frigate fleet. Check out the trailer below:

The Leviathan expedition will last six weeks, and once completed, your progress will become “a saved mode of survival.”

Last month, Hello Games co-founder Sean Murray spoke about the development of the studio’s next game after Nobody’s sky.

“For some time now we have been working on something quite ambitious in the background. It’s a small team but we like it that way, “said Murray, after confirming that it was not a sequel to No Man’s Sky.

“Like No Man’s Sky, it’s the kind of project that even if we had a thousand people working on it, it would seem impossible,” he added.
