The 1997 Nintendo 64 release of Rare, GoldenEye 007, is arguably one of the greatest video games of all time. The Xbox 360 version leaked last year, and since then there have been rumors about the return of this classic first-person shooter in some way or another.
Now, ahead of next week’s Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, the title’s hits have appeared on the official Xbox website. As described by our sister site Pure Xbox:
“Each achievement is also accompanied by a screenshot of the game, and they seem to show that its graphics are very similar to the original release of the N64, with character models that look very blocky and of low quality in particular.”

In addition, it has been reported that Rare employees have been seen playing the game on Xbox. This discovery comes through TrueAchievements, a site known for tracking Xbox achievement activity.
The rare chief engineer James Thomas (called Gamertag ‘BIGsheep’) is apparently the one who has been caught unlocking hits (again). Thomas previously worked on N64 ports for Rare Replay and six months ago he was successful in this unannounced release.
While it was rumored that GoldenEye 007 would arrive much earlier this year, it is believed that the Russian invasion of Ukraine may have caused a possible delay. These updates also follow the discovery that GoldenEye 007 is no longer banned in Germany, which also led to speculation about a possible reissue.
Of course, the big question on Nintendo’s front is is this game coming to Switch? There is still some debate as to what exactly this new version might be, which may determine the platforms where it is available.
If we receive any updates, we will let you know.
