Free Flu Vaccines for Concession Card Holders

As of today, the ACT government is making flu vaccines free of charge card holders at its Sensory Access and Vaccination Clinic.

ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said removing the financial barrier for concession card holders would create more equitable access to “flu vaccines while increasing vaccination rates.” already high in the ACT “.

“Although many canberra already receive” flu shots in the ACT in GPs, pharmacists and through employment-based vaccination programs, we know that cost can be a barrier for some canberrains not included in the Commonwealth National Immunization Program, “said Ms. Stephen,” said Smith.

“After two” flu seasons with a low number of cases, we’re seeing more “flu” cases in our community this year. Getting vaccinated against the flu is the best way to protect yourself and your family. .

“I strongly encourage all Canberra residents to get vaccinated against the flu as soon as possible. Anyone who is eligible for a third or fourth vaccination against COVID-19 can also get it at the same time.”

Concession card holders and their children can make a reservation for the Weston Access and Sensory Vaccination Clinic by calling 02 5124 3999 between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Free flu vaccinations are now available for eligible general practitioners from a GP or some pharmacies under the National Immunization Program, although an administration fee may be charged.

People eligible under the National Immunization Program for free vaccination by a GP include:

• Children 6 months to less than 5 years old (also available at the ACT government’s early childhood immunization centers)

• Pregnant women (also available in antenatal clinics)

• People 65 and older (also available at participating pharmacies)

• Aboriginal and islanders in the Torres Strait aged 6 months and over

• People 6 months or older with underlying medical conditions.

The ACT government will continue to work with community service providers to improve vaccination opportunities for people who would otherwise have difficulty accessing a “flu vaccine.”

Starting this Wednesday, June 8, pharmacists from the age of 5 will be able to be vaccinated against the flu by pharmacists. Currently, pharmacists can only administer vaccines to people over the age of 10.

This change will make it easier for family members to get vaccinated against the flu at the same time.

ACT Health will provide more information directly to pharmacists today.
