A 16-year-old pedestrian dies after being hit by a vehicle in Nanaimo

A 16-year-old boy died Saturday night after being hit by a vehicle traveling on Nanaimo Parkway.

The Nanaimo RCMP says officers received a call at approximately 22:38 on June 4 about a pedestrian who had been hit by a car in the southbound lanes of Nanaimo Parkway.

When the RCMP arrived at the scene, officers found that it was a 16-year-old boy who had been run over. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

A vehicle has since been identified as involved in the collision and has been captured by police.

Police say the pedestrian was wearing dark-colored clothing and that it was raining at the time of the collision causing poor visibility.

Southbound lanes were cut off from traffic for three hours after the incident, while BC forensics and traffic analysts assessed the scene.

Police are currently investigating and looking for possible witnesses or anyone with camera footage from the area.
