Hiker Melanie Goodine, 41, was found in danger by other hikers who reported it to park officials around 5:50 p.m. Thursday. He soon did not respond and the spectators began CPR. National Park Service search and rescue workers helped with resuscitation efforts, but were unsuccessful.
The park service said Goodine was getting out of the canyon at the time after walking down the Colorado River early in the day.
The National Park Service and Coconino County Forensic are investigating the death.
In a statement, the park service said hikers should make sure to drink plenty of fluids, rest in the shade during the heat of the day, watch for signs of distress from traveling companions, and dress in light and loose colored clothes.
The National Park Service also said it does not recommend hiking from the shore to the river and coming back in a day.
There was an alert on Sunday because the temperature in the inner canyon was expected to reach 41 ÂșC.
