The U.S. Navy identifies a pilot killed in the crash of a fighter jet in the Mojave Desert

TRONA, California (KABC) – A U.S. Navy pilot killed after his fighter jet crashed Friday afternoon in the Mojave Desert has been identified by military officials.

Lieutenant Richard Bullock died when his F / A-18E Super Hornet crashed near Trona, San Bernardino County, at approximately 2:30 p.m., June 3.

Bullock was assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 113 based at Lemoore Naval Air Station, according to military officials.

At the time of the crash he was flying on a routine training mission. His fighter jet crashed into a remote, uninhabited area.

Authorities say no civilians were injured.

The accident is under investigation.
