Surprised customers of a South Tyneside fish and chips store found themselves sharing the restaurant with a famous face.
Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appeared with an award-winning Colman’s xippy and ate at a traditional fish dinner.
The former First Lady was in South Shields speaking as a guest of former Labor MP David Miliband, who is holding an annual conference in her former constituency.
And after Friday’s engagement, he took Mrs. Clinton to Colman’s, a Northeastern institution.
The former Democratic presidential candidate dined to start with crab salad, then traditional cod and chips with extra tartar sauce for main.
Co – owner Richard Ord Junior said: “He was so amazing with everyone he met.
“She was surreal when she first came in, but once you talked to her it was so real.
“It was easy to talk to and get along with her and it was a real pleasure.”

Clinton is not her only celebrity client
Mrs. Clinton posed for photos with Mr. Ord’s father, Richard senior.
Mr. Miliband has previously brought his former boss Tony Blair to Colman’s.
And the restaurant has also fed local stars Sting, Sam Fender and Little Mix in the past.
Mrs. Clinton has ancestral ties to the North East of England, as her great-grandfather was a coal miner from Durham County.
