Communities may have to move inland due to coastal erosion

Residents living in towns and villages on the British coast may have to move due to the rising sea, the Environment Agency’s director general is expected to say today.

Coastal erosion is leading to the loss of homes in the UK, especially in Norfolk and Suffolk.

In a speech at a conference on flooding and coastal erosion, Sir James Bevan will say that an “uncomfortable truth” is that some British communities “cannot stay where they are”.
