A horrific accident has claimed the lives of three people on Highway 3 at Crowsnest Pass, east of Sparwood, BC.
An Elk Valley RCMP press release said that on Monday, June 6, at around 2.30pm, a westbound SUV was trying to pass when it collided head-on with an eastbound tractor-trailer.
The impact of the collision caused the full-size white SUV to overturn and almost immediately burst into flames.
Witnesses at the scene rescued the driver of the truck from his vehicle before it was also consumed by fire. They were unable to reach anyone inside the other vehicle.
Sergeant Chris Manseau Quick, a media relations officer for the BC RCMP division, says it was later determined that the SUV had three dead occupants inside.
The highway was cut off for several hours after the crash.
