OTTAWA – The Canadian Public Health Agency warns travelers to be very careful abroad because of the possible threat of catching monkeypox.
The government issued a level two travel health warning to encourage people traveling abroad to take extra precautions.
The public health agency says travelers could be subjected to isolation or other measures to limit the spread of the virus.
The agency also warns that those leaving the country may have limited access to adequate care if they become ill and may experience delays in returning home.
It is rare to see monkeypox outbreaks outside of West and Central Africa, but cases have emerged in countries around the world in recent weeks, with 77 cases confirmed in Canada as of Friday.
The government travel notice applies to several countries, including the United Kingdom, Spain, and Germany.
