Why does chemotherapy cause hair loss?
Chemotherapy is a life-saving drug that works by killing cancer cells.
However, medicines are so powerful that they can destroy healthy cells in other parts of the body, including the roots of the hair.
This can cause hair loss as well as fatigue, nausea and a host of other unpleasant side effects.
“Some treatments only cause hair loss or partial thinning, while others cause people to lose hair all over their body,” says the NHS.
Hair usually begins to fall out fifteen days after starting the exhausting treatment.
It can disappear quickly in groups, or gradually.
Some patients have the option of wearing a “cold cap,” which reduces blood flow to the scalp. This limits the amount of chemotherapy drugs that reach the area, helping to prevent hair loss.
A couple of months after finishing the chemotherapy, it usually starts to grow again.
Although, it may seem different. “Your new hair may have a different texture or color,” according to the Mayo Clinic in the United States. “It may be more curly than before, or it may be gray until the cells that control your hair’s pigment work again.”
He continued: “I just need to get closer, take care of myself, eat right and get over this mess, get my books dirty and be a happy person, so this is where I am.
“He can be a bald cyclist for a while, so it’s just a warning. I don’t want to make a fuss. I look really bald.”
Speaking on his podcast The Hairy Bikers – Agony Uncles, Si replied, “No, hey, when I first met you, you looked like a Hells Angel upside down, so I like that look, I’ve always liked that look , you look great “. with Dave saying, “Yeah, I know, and in different circumstances I’d accept it more, but I think in those circumstances it’s just something I have to live with.”
