Cyberpunk 2077 Netflix anime series gets a trailer, it looks great

Netflix has just released the first trailer for its Cyberpunk 2077 anime series. Whatever complaints you may have about the game, you may want to leave them at the door.

This is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, a 10-part standalone anime series where CDPR developers are very involved, but where the animation itself is by Studio Trigger, who you may know from things like Kill the Kill and Little Witch Academy.

This sounds cooler than anything I’ve ever done in a video game:

Here is the official description and list of those involved, courtesy of Netflix:

The series tells an independent 10-episode story about a street boy trying to survive in Night City, a city of the future obsessed with technology and body modification. Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an egerrunner, an outlaw mercenary also known as cyberpunk. CD PROJEKT RED, the video game company Cyberpunk 2077, is producing the series with RafaƂ Jaki (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher: Ronin) as showrunner and executive producer, with Satoru Homma, Bartosz Sztybor and Saya. Great serving as a producer. The CD PROJEKT RED team has been working on this new series since 2018. Japan’s acclaimed animation company, Studio Trigger, will serve as the series’ animation studio and bring the world of Cyberpunk to life with the its vibrant and characteristic style. Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill the Kill, Promare) will direct the series along with creative director Hiromi Wakabayashi (Kill the Kill), character designer and animation director Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academy, BNA: Brand New Animal) and adaptation. script by Yoshiki Usa (GRIDMAN UNIVERSE series, Promare) and Masahiko Otsuka (Star Wars: Visions ‘The Elder’). The original score will be composed by Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill series).

The series will premiere in September.
