Author of “How to Kill Your Husband”, Nancy Crampton Brophy, Guilty of Killing Your Husband

How to kill your husband and get caught: Tell your cellmate.

Nancy Crampton Brophy, 71, was sentenced on Wednesday for second-degree murder for the 2018 murder of her husband, chef Daniel Brophy, 63, after explaining the murder to her cellmate .

The Multnomah County Jury handed down its verdict on the “How to Kill Your Husband” author Wednesday morning after a five-week trial, according to the Portland Eater.

Nancy’s cellmate Andrea Jacobs testified on May 18 and told prosecutors that the romantic novelist had described in detail the distance at which she shot her husband.

Gesturing to the jury, Jacobs stretched out his arms to indicate the distance between Nancy and her late husband and said, “He told me he was shot twice in the heart and … he showed me the distance.”

Jacobs told authorities his relationship with Nancy became “very uncomfortable” after the exchange.

According to police, Nancy had shot her husband in the back and then while he was on the ground in 2018 at the Oregon Culinary Institute where he worked.

Prosecutors said Nancy had bought the same make and model of the weapon that was used in her husband’s murder, and believe she had changed the barrel of the weapon to make the weapon more difficult to locate.

The defense claimed that Nancy’s purchase of weapons was for research into her work as a novelist. However, this statement did not seem to keep up with the jury.

In addition to the essay “How to Kill Your Husband,” Nancy Crampton Brophy had written another novel entitled “The Wrong Husband.”

The convicted novelist and the story has not yet been convicted.
