Manchester United are one of the club’s interested in the Benfica Núñez star, but their high price has rings in the Red Devils’ transfer business failure in recent years.

Manchester United’s apparent “reluctance” to be dragged into a bidding war over Darwin Nunez suggests the Red Devils have finally learned of their failed business.
Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, United have been one of the most spent in the Premier League. But they have no league titles to prove for this expense and have not won a trophy since Jose Mourinho’s time at the helm at Old Trafford.
However, there is now a new regime in Manchester, with Erik ten Hag as coach and Richard Arnold as the club’s executive director. As they begin to decide which direction they want to take United, the duo may take into account the criticism Jamie Carragher gave to the Red Devils last October, following Saudi Arabia’s takeover of Newcastle.
Man Utd can take advantage of the hesitations of Juventus and Chelsea in the search for a transfer. Harry Maguire will have the chance to save Man Utd’s career with Erik ten Hag’s pre-season plan
“No matter how much money is injected into the club, for Newcastle to win the title in 2030 would be an incredible feat. In many ways, it will be harder for Newcastle than for Manchester City,” Carragher wrote in the Telegraph.
“When the Saudis study the last 10 years of English football, they will know that there is more success than spending millions on new players. Manchester United have spent a billion since Sir Alex Ferguson retired and is in his ninth season without the Premier League title.
“They are the most obvious example that a football club cannot guarantee the titles as it is the most expensive. They have to have the right people in the organization who spend them. They have to make smart hiring decisions. especially when agents start to see commissions and clubs look at an opportunity to unload their dead wood for inflated prices. “

It seems that the new United regime is already putting into practice the lessons that Carragher tried to teach. The Red Devils are one of several clubs linked with the Benfica Núñez striker, along with Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are ready to break his transfer record in order to get his signature, with Benfica valuing him at £ 85 million. But according to the Manchester Evening News, there will be no bidding war, with United “reluctant” to be lured to one.
Although they are “interested” and have held talks on Uruguayan, a big money offer is off the table. This change in strategy, beginning with Núñez’s research, would suggest that United are finally beginning to learn the lessons of their many failed feats in the transfer market.
Darwin Nunez has a clear problem with the move from Man Utd, but Liverpool can satisfy his desire.
It’s something that could serve United well when they begin rebuilding under Ten Hag. The Dutchman has many areas of his new team that need to see fresh blood and spending a lot of his budget on a striker could hurt his wider overhaul.
The Núñez saga is without a doubt the first opportunity for the new regime to show that they have learned the lessons of the past. And the news of his “reluctance” to a bidding war is a positive first step in this transition.
