Canada is extending the period of time that parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents may remain in the country with the supervision program.
In a press release on Tuesday, the Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada said that as of July 4, supervisors will be able to stay in Canada for five years, with the option to extend for two more years while they are in Canada. country.
Previously, supervised parents and grandparents could only visit the family in Canada for no more than two years at a time. The supervisor is valid for 10 years and allows multiple entries.

In the future, international health insurance companies will be able to offer coverage to supervised applicants, IRCC said. Currently, applicants can only use Canadian providers.

The announcement comes as waiting times for immigration applications to arrive in Canada continue to be a concern for many people caught in limbo, increasingly impatient.
