The UK is leading Europe in disposing of plastic waste in supermarkets, but activists warn that the situation is still “abysmal”.

More than 130 retailers from 13 European countries were surveyed in three categories: transparency and performance, commitments and support for government policy, and were given a percentage score.

UK retailers averaged 39.6% and French retailers 23.3%, the two best-performing nations.
