Apple made the first beta of macOS 13 available after presenting the software at its WWDC presentation.
Note that the MacOS Ventura Developer beta is not intended for use on your main Mac. Performance issues and errors can be common, especially with early builds. We’ve seen issues with notifications and FaceTime doesn’t work properly so far in the first beta.
If you’re not interested in registering as an Apple developer to access the macOS beta, or if you’d like it to be more stable, the free public beta will arrive in July.
The first beta version includes a file size of almost 12 GB.
Get macOS Ventura
Install the developer beta
If you’re not yet registered as an Apple developer, you’ll need to do so ($ 99 / year).
- Make a new backup of your Mac in case you want to download an earlier version at any time
- On your Mac, go to the Apple Developer Website
- Click Account at the top right and sign in if you haven’t already
- At the bottom left, select Downloads
- Click the two-line icon at the top left if you don’t see the Downloads option
- Make sure the “Operating Systems” tab is selected near the top right corner
- Scroll down and click Install profile next to macOS 13 beta, then choose Allow
- Go to your downloads folder and you should see the macOS beta access utility
- Click to mount the utility disk image, then double-click Access Utility.pkg to install the macOS beta profile on your Mac
- The System Preferences> Software Update window should start automatically with the beta version of macOS 13, click Update Now to download the update.
- When the download is complete, follow the instructions to complete the beta installation
