Essex police shut down Chelmsford Road after a “serious” accident – RECUP

A young boy fights for his life after a “serious” collision on a major road in Chelmsford this morning (June 9). The incident happened on Broomfield Road, near Patching Hall Lane, where Essex police were called at around 8.30am.

The East of England also attended the scene, as the accident involved an SUV and a 12-year-old boy riding a bicycle. The boy was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Broomfield Road has been closed in both directions and has been closed all morning. The closure caused slow traffic and delays in the area.

Traffic has returned to normal when the road reopened after 2 p.m. Essex police issued a statement on the incident. A spokesman said: “We are appealing to witnesses after a serious collision in Chelmsford.

“Our officers were called to Broomfield Road, near the intersection with Patching Hall Lane, around 8:30 a.m. today, Thursday, June 9. The collision involved a silver SUV and a bicycle.

“The cyclist, a 12-year-old boy, has been taken to hospital in a state of danger to his life. Our investigations continue and we call on anyone who has witnessed the collision or has pictures of the dashboard camera or ringtone.
