Australian soap opera Neighbors finishes filming after 37 years

Neighbors has shared a final photo of his cast and crew after filming wrapped up in the last scene of the long Australian soap opera.

The show’s executive producer revealed that tears were shed on the last day of filming, but he believes his 37th birthday is an “incredible achievement” that should be celebrated.

The world-renowned soap opera first aired in 1985 and followed the lives of those who lived and worked in the fictional suburb of Melbourne, Erinsborough.

Executive producer Jason Herbison said: “We all knew that day would come, but until we were here at the time the last scene was shot, it was hard to express how we would all feel.

“Sure, it’s sad and tears have been shed, but we’re also very proud. Thirty-seven years is an incredible success and that has to be celebrated.

“We’ve also been incredibly touched by the response from our viewers around the world.

“Neighbors is more than just a TV show for a lot of people. They see us as part of the family and we feel privileged to have been invited to their homes, and I know that the legacy of Neighbors will last for many years ”.

Stefan Dennis, who has played the villainous Paul Robinson throughout the show’s history, described the last day of filming as “a melancholy day” in an interview with Australian breakfast program Studio 10 on Friday.

The actor said he was “surprised” to get incredibly excited while filming the final scenes, and admitted that he had to keep a “very low profile” to avoid becoming “an absolute mess”.

He also revealed that Diana, the Princess of Wales and the Queen Mother had been big fans of Neighbors and would specifically ask the BBC for tapes to catch up on episodes missed during royal engagements.

The final episode, which airs on August 1, will see all-year fan favorites return to the Ramsay Street dead end community to say goodbye to the soap.

Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, who played the powerful couple Charlene Mitchell and Scott Robinson in the 1980s, previously announced that they would return to the show.

Memento star Guy Pearce, who began his career playing Mike Young in the Australian soap opera, had also confirmed that he was rehearsing his role after sharing photographs with the cast and crew in recent days.

They will be joined by Peter O’Brien, who appeared in the first episode of the show as Shane Ramsay, as well as Ian Smith as Harold Bishop, Mark Little as Joe Mangel and Paul Keane as Des Clarke.

Among those returning from the 2000s are Chris Milligan, who played Kyle Canning, Morgan Baker as Callum Rebecchi, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, who played Izzy Hoyland, and James Mason as Chris Pappas.

Also returning will be Pippa Black, who played Elle Robinson, and her on-screen brother Jordan Patrick Smith, who played Andrew Robinson.
