Old McDonald’s restaurants will reopen with a new brand and ownership in Russia.
The new fast food chain that will take over McDonald’s in Russia has unveiled its new logo before its relaunch.
The new logo design shows a red-orange circle and two orange lines on a green background, the image depicts two yellow potato chips and a yellow-orange burger.
It is reported that the green background represents the quality of products and services.
Social media critics have commented on its resemblance to the Bangladesh flag. “This is the flag of our country,” a Facebook user said while also displaying an emoticon with the flag.
The new owner of McDonald’s has not yet decided on a new brand, a company spokesman, PBO System, told state news agency TASS.
Two of the eight names considered are “All Samyi”, which translates as “The Same” or “That One” and “Svobodnaya Kassa” (Cash Register Available), according to a report in The Moscow Times.
The relaunch of the chain is expected to begin on Sunday when the country celebrates Russia Day, a holiday that marks the country’s independence, at the same iconic site in Moscow’s Pushkin Square where McDonald’s first opened in Russia in January. of 1990.
The reopening will initially cover 15 locations in Moscow and the surrounding region.
McDonald’s said last month that it was selling its restaurants in Russia to one of its local licensors, Alexander Govor. The deal marked one of the most important business ventures since Russia sent tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine on February 24th.
Govor has said it plans to expand the brand to 1,000 locations across the country and reopen all of the chain’s restaurants in two months. But there may be some headwinds.
McDonald’s, the world’s largest burger chain, had owned 84 percent of its nearly 850 restaurants in Russia and charged up to $ 1.4 billion after the sale to Govor, which GiD LLC had previously run 25 restaurants.
The fast food chain last year generated about 9 percent, or $ 2 billion, of its revenue from Russia and Ukraine. McDonald’s has the right to repurchase its Russian restaurants within 15 years, but many terms of the sale to Govor are still unclear.
The TASS news agency said on Wednesday that McDonald’s would remain open as usual at Moscow and St. Petersburg airports and train stations until 2023, citing a source close to Rosinter Restaurants ROST.MM, another franchisee.
“Rosinter has a unique agreement under which the American corporation cannot take out the franchise. They can operate in peace,” the TASS source said.
