Road closures, TTC service outages in Toronto this weekend

Several roadblocks and traffic disruptions are expected this weekend as special events and festivals return to Toronto. Here’s what you need to know:

Journey to beat cancer

Road closures on Lake Shore Boulevard W. are expected to close on Saturday as thousands of cyclists prepare to hit the road for the 15th annual Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer.

The fundraising event for the Princess Margaret Cancer Center returns for the first time in two years. Cyclists will travel more than 200 km from Toronto to Niagara Falls over two days. More than 4,600 cyclists are expected to take part.

The tour will start on Saturday morning at the fairgrounds. The following roadblocks will be made:

  • Westbound Lake Shore Boulevard W. from Strachan Avenue to British Columbia Drive at 6 a.m. to approximately 10:30 p.m.
  • Westbound Lake Shore Boulevard W. from British Columbia Drive to Windermere Avenue at 8 a.m. to approximately 10:30 p.m.

Also on Saturday, Lake Shore Boulevard W. will be closed to vehicles from Second Street to Seventh Street from 5 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. for The Lakeshore Village Grilled Cheese Challenge.

Run for women, word on the street

Queen’s Park Crescent E. and W. will remain closed to vehicles from College Street to Bloor Street W. from 12:01 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday for the Run for Women event in support of the Department of Psychiatry at Women’s College Hospital .

Queen’s Park Crescent E. and W. will be closed to vehicles from Wellesley Street W. to Bloor Street W. from 10:30 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday for the Word on the Street festival.

Portugal Day Parade

Lansdowne Avenue will be closed to vehicles from Bloor Street W. to College Street from 8 am to 1:30 pm on Saturday for the Portugal Day Parade.

Islington Avenue is closed to vehicles from Eglinton Avenue W. to The Kingsway until Friday, June 17 for the RBC Canadian Open.

ActiveTO

ActiveTO will be held on Bayview Avenue from Rosedale Valley Road to Lawren Harris Square; River Street between Bayview Avenue and Spruce Street; and The Meadoway from Brimley Road to Scarborough Golf Club Road from 7am on Saturday to 7pm on Sunday.

High Park roads will be closed to vehicles throughout the weekend.

TTC notices

If you want to avoid traffic jams and get on the subway, here are some service warnings:

  • There will be no subway service throughout the weekend on line 1 TTC between Lawrence and St. John stations. Clear due to Metrolinx construction of Eglinton Crosstown LRT.
  • The service of line 2 between the stations of St. George and Broadview will begin Sunday at noon to accommodate the replacement of the beam on the Prince Edward (Bloor) Viaduct.
  • Bay and Sherbourne stations will be closed on Sunday.

Some bus and tram routes will also be affected by weekend events:

  • Bus 29 Dufferin and Tram 501 Queen will depart on Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Tram 501 Queen will also be diverted on Saturday to host the Lakeshore Village Grilled Cheese Challenge.
  • Buses 19 Bay, 72 Pape, 97 Yonge, 320 Yonge and 172 Cherry Beach will be diverted due to filming on Queens Quay and Yonge Street on Saturday.
  • Bus 19 Bay will depart from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Bus 47 Lansdowne, bus 63 Ossington and tram 505 Dundas will depart on Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00. Delays on bus 29 Dufferin are expected during this time.
  • 13th Avenue Road and 94th Wellesley will be diverted throughout the weekend
