Jennifer Lopez and Shakira Super Bowl’s half-time program was widely praised, but it still had its detractors. Apparently, this group included Jennifer Lopez.
Two years after taking to the stage at Super Bowl LIV, the multi-platinum pop star debuted “Halftime,” a documentary about her career that revealed some frustrations behind the scenes in the face of the big show.
For Entertainment Weekly, the documentary captures Lopez mapping the show with music director Kim Burse as she begins to consider the basic idea of using co-headlines for the part-time show:
“We have six minutes. We have 30 seconds of a song, and if we take a minute, that’s it, we have five left. But there must be some songs we sing, though. We have our singing moments. It won’t be a dance magazine. We have to sing our message, “Lopez told Burse. “This is the worst idea in the world for two people to make the Super Bowl. It was the worst idea in the world.”
Later, reportedly, Lopez talks about the production with Shakira and suggests splitting the show in half, which the couple ended up doing. López suggests that 20 minutes would have been more appropriate for a show with two headlines:
“I know the people in the Super Bowl want us to weave through the whole show. I haven’t had a confirmation of how many minutes I’ll have,” Shakira tells Lopez, who replies, “Let me address it quickly. They said 12 I got a good confirmation that we could have one or two more minutes, so now it’s 13, 14 minutes. should do [have half]. “
“If he was going to be a double-headed poster, they should have given us 20 minutes,” Lopez said. “That’s what they should have done.”

Despite Lopez’s frustrations with a two-poster show, the NFL apparently didn’t think there was much of a problem considering he reserved five headliners for the half-time Super Bowl LIV program two years later.
