“God of War: Ragnarok” lands this November

God of War: Ragnarok could make its launch window in 2022 after all. Bloomberg sources say the PS4 and PS5 game in the marquee will be released in November despite recent claims that it could be delayed until 2023. Sony’s Santa Monica Studio is about to announce the release date later in June , the informants said. The debut was supposed to be delayed from September, but there seems to be no more worries.

European sources who spoke to Gamereactor had maintained that the game would not be ready until next year. The no-show at both the June 2 State of Play event and this week’s Summer Games Fest helped fuel speculation about a long delay. Bloomberg contacts said there had been “several” internal and public delays for Ragnarok since the 2020 announcement, at least some due to the pandemic and the need for remote work.

Sony has not commented on the rumor and there is no guarantee that the new God of War will stay on track. However, a delivery date in November would not be surprising. Game developers often release their major titles during the major holiday shopping season, especially before Black Friday (the day after American Thanksgiving in November). And while Ragnarok could easily be the most important PlayStation game of the near future, a holiday release could be crucial to Sony’s results.
