Darwin charged with gunshot wounds after threatening his head with a gun

A 50-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault and several firearms-related offenses after threatening his employer with a firearm at a business in the suburb of Berrimah in Darwin.

Police were called to the scene around 6pm on Thursday and cordoned off an area around Pruen Road as a precaution.

Police said negotiators engaged a man who later turned himself in to officers and was arrested around 9 p.m.

On Friday, Detective Assistant Sergeant Andrew Kren said no one was injured during the incident.

“At the time of his arrest he was not carrying a firearm and no one was injured,” he said.

On Friday, police located a firearm on the property.

Charges include possession of an unlicensed firearm, failure to comply with firearms storage requirements, and possession of unlicensed ammunition.

The man has been arrested and is due to appear in Darwin’s local court at a later date.
