A large-scale search that revealed the bodies of two people on Lake Roadford shook the area this week. The lake, near Okehampton, was at the center of the hunt after reports of a boat capsized with two disabled sailors who went missing on Wednesday (June 8th).
It was followed by a response from various agencies, with police working with specialized equipment and resources in and on the water, on land and with drones. It continued on Thursday, when two bodies were found.
The families of two people who went missing after the ship sank were reported dead. Specially trained officers are supporting them during this time, as police say formal identification has not yet taken place.

Chief Superintendent Dan Evans said: “This is an extremely distressing incident and our thoughts are with everyone involved and their loved ones, with whom we are working closely to provide help and support wherever we can. It’s all done. as soon as possible to locate the two missing people as soon as possible.
“Tragically, we can confirm that the bodies of two people have been located and recovered this afternoon. Our priority is to support their families. “
At around 1.30pm on Wednesday, a large-scale response from the emergency services was launched. Police, fire and ambulance services, air ambulance, HM Coast Guard and search and rescue teams rushed to the scene.
Two people were pulled out of the water and taken to Derriford Hospital for treatment. Since then, one person has been discharged and another continues to be admitted to hospital in critical condition.
Two more people were removed from the water and checked by ambulance crews before being discharged at the scene. No other boat was involved in the incident.
