The Maserati MC20 Cielo comes heavier than the standard coupe.

Maserati has introduced the MC20 Cielo, which is presented as an iteration of the supercar. The luxury sports coupe looks visually appealing thanks to the open roof look, while the specs and other details remain the same as the standard coupe. The new variant comes after almost two years since the Italian luxury car tent introduced the supercar. In addition, Maserati has announced that it will bring more special variants. One is the PrimaSerie Launch edition, which will only be produced in a limited number of 60 units.

Speaking of the design of the Maserati MC20 Cielo, it weighs 65 kg more than the standard coupe. The carmaker claims to have designed the car with a focus on greater rigidity compared to the normal coupe. This additional rigidity compensates for the retractable roof of the Sky, which can be opened and closed in about 12 seconds. This retractable roof incorporates polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) technology, which allows the large chromatic glass panel to instantly switch from transparent to opaque. Maserati also claims that this is the largest glass panel in this segment.

The MC20 Cielo doesn’t look much different from the coupe, but the carmaker claims to have made several changes to fit the retractable roof. The Trident ventilation grilles on the back of the MC20 coupe have been saved and replaced with a matte titanium Trident sticker. Engine air inlets have also been relocated. Butterfly doors remain unchanged.

Interestingly, Maserati has three variants of the MC20 carbon fiber monocoque. One is designed for the coupe, one for the convertible and one for the EV. These three variants differ from each other in their distribution and stratification of carbon fiber.

Speaking of the powertrain, the MC20 Cielo continues to get power from the same 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 unit that is under the hood of the MC20 coupe. Combined with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, this engine is good for producing 621 hp and 730 Nm of torque. It allows the MC20 to run at 320 km / h.
