There has been an increase in overdose events in the Quesnel community. The reported substance is sold as a feather, is deep burgundy (red), thick and dense.
This substance is highly toxic and causes a sudden overdose that includes prolonged sedation and memory loss. Overdoses occur when the substance is smoked and injected.
For your safety
- Get training in overdose prevention, recognition and response; carry naloxone
- Do not use alone. Make a plan and tell a friend that you can ask for help if needed
- If you plan to use it alone, use the free Lifeguard or BeSafe app available in the app store or on the Toward the Heart website
- Know your tolerance. If you are sick or have had a short time or use it for a short time, use much less
- Do not mix drugs or mix drugs with alcohol
- Try a small amount first and go slow
- Use it in an OPS if possible (see Quesnel locations below)
- Access fentanyl drug testing when available (PAHO sites)
- Call 9-1-1 or your local emergency number immediately if someone overdoses
