Medsafe provisionally approved two new Pfizer vaccines: one for the Omicron BA1 variant and one for the BA4 and BA4 variants.

One dose has been approved for people 12 years of age and older, who have already had at least two vaccines against Covid-19.

The Technical Advisory Group will now advise the ministry on whether to recommend using the jabs in the country.

If approved, vaccines are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2023.

The new vaccines work against both the original variant of Covid and the Omicron subvariant.
