People in the United States can catch the strawberry supermoon on Tuesday night, weather permitting.
According to NASA, the full moon will be at the closest point to Earth for this orbit at 19:24 EDT on Tuesday. It will be close enough to be considered a supermoon, making it the second in 2022.
It will appear full from Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning, and will be the lowest full moon of the year, reaching just 23.3 degrees above the horizon on Wednesday at 1:56 am EDT, the agency said.

How did Strawberry Moon get its name?
The name has nothing to do with its color. Traditionally, the strawberry moon is the full moon in June, which is usually the last of spring or the first of summer.
According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, the name was used by Native American Algonquin tribes living in the northeastern United States and the Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota peoples. It was used to mark the ripening of strawberries ready to be picked in June.
How to See the Strawberry Supermoon |
After sunset, sky observers are advised to look southeast to see how the full moon rises above the horizon, the Almanac said. It reached full illumination before Tuesday at 7:52 a.m. EDT, but will not be visible in US time zones until Tuesday evening, as parts of the world have already seen the supermoon. The Almanac can calculate the rising and setting times of the moon based on your location here.
“Full moons are a fun time to observe lunar features, as the rest of the sky will be blurred by light. With the naked eye, you can see the large high and low moons of the moon, which may appear to be certain shapes. and generates stories about these forms, depending on the culture you follow, “according to Space.com.
For those who don’t stay awake, a free live broadcast of the Virtual Telescope Project in Italy also shows the full moon rising over Rome.
And if you miss this supermoon, there will be another one on July 13th.
