West Coast star Andrew Embley has given more details about his infamous fight with then-teammate Daniel Chick in the low season of 2007.
The Eagles were one of the most dominant teams in the mid-2000s, playing in consecutive grand finals and winning the first edition in 2006, but the club also faced off-field problems, including drug-related incidents.
Talking about it BackChat Podcast Embley said temper tantrums first erupted between the couple, who both played in the Premier League victory last season, a day at the club after Chick approached him while he was having a massage.

“‘Chicky’ just came in and started throwing haystacks, just hitting me, I say, ‘What a day !?’ A few guys took him out and nothing happened at the time, I said ‘mate, you’re an idiot, and so on,’ “Embley said.
“Then I went home that night and called ‘Kerry’ (Daniel Kerr), and he said, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll just go out to dinner and have a couple (of drinks) and forget about it.’
“So I went out to dinner with Daniel and I had a little couple and a couple more and a couple more. It was Monday and our day off was a Tuesday.
“I lost him at about 10 o’clock at night. I said, ‘That’s it, let’s look for him, let’s go now.’ a few red wines, of course, shouldn’t have done that.
“(I said) some explicit and basically, in a nutshell, I said, ‘You’re foolish, you’re weak. Do you want to do this correctly? We put on our gloves, put on our mouthguards and we’ll meet tomorrow morning and we’ll be fine. ‘

Embley revealed that Chick did not answer the phone call tonight, but that he specifically told her to meet at the club at 7 a.m. the next day.
“So I got up up there at 7 in the morning, I looked around, without Chicky. So I jumped into the spa, I recovered … while I was back in the locker room, the next time I saw Chicky come in, at 7 in the morning, with no one around, “he said.
“We’re in our locker room and before we know it’s on. Chicky and I just throw them away, completely. After that it’s pretty vague, but I remember it was suddenly like UFC and we went into the box office, bouncing.
“Peter Worsfold (brother of former Eagles coach John Worsfold) took us out and that was basically it. We didn’t have time to put on the mouth guards, they were bare knuckles.”
After a meeting between Embley, Chick and John Worsfold, both players were forced to stand in front of the playgroup and apologize to their teammates.

“I remember ‘Woosh’ (Worsfold) sitting there and saying, ‘Who won the fight?’ he answered the question, “he said.
“Then Woosh said,” Well, judging by the fact that you don’t have any bruises on both of you, it must have been a pretty crappy fight. “
“Everyone says, ‘why did you fight?’ Obviously there was a lot going on at the time with ‘Cous’ (Ben Cousins), etc. But there was no real resentment with Chicky and me, it wasn’t anything that was going on, it was something that happened like a little bit of the moment “.
Despite the heated fight, Embley said he and Chick are on good terms now.
Embley, who won the Norm Smith Medal in the 2006 Grand Final, played 250 games for the Eagles, the ninth most in the club’s history.
He presented the Norm Smith Medal to Christian Petracca of Melbourne following the club’s top-flight victory in 2021 over the Western Bulldogs in Perth.
It comes after Demons couple Steven May and Jake Melksham were involved in a physical altercation last week in which the former received a one-match ban on drinking while out of a concussion, while Melksham required two surgery attacks on his injured hand.
