Bow River in Calgary under “high flow advice” as forecasts improve

The city of Calgary is still watching the water levels of the Bow and Elbow rivers, but the outlook has improved in terms of the potential for ground flooding.

According to provincial data, the Bow River is now under a high flow warning instead of a flood watch.

There are no plans to evacuate areas along the rivers in Calgary, but the Calgary Police Service says it has a plan in place if weather conditions and water levels worsen.

After learning some critical lessons during the devastating floods of 2013, the city of Calgary is not at risk.

A massive temporary berm now blocks all Memorial Drive lanes along Sunnyside’s northwestern neighborhood, one of the city’s low-risk communities.

The berm is expected to remain in place, closing one of Calgary’s busiest roads between 10th Street NW and Fourth Street. NE, at least until Sunday.

St. Patrick’s Island, Bowness Park and Prince’s Island Park remain closed to the public. There is no word on when these areas are expected to reopen.
