Microsoft today launched a new cybersecurity application Defender on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. Although the software giant has used the nickname Defender for antivirus protection for years, this new cross-platform Microsoft Defender application is designed for people as a simplified dashboard that takes advantage of existing antivirus software or offers additional protection. for the device.
Microsoft Defender will be available today for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers, and features will vary by platform. IOS and iPadOS, for example, have no virus protection, and the app offers some web-fishing protection next to a dashboard that includes alerts for other devices.
On Android, Microsoft Defender includes antivirus protection and the ability to scan malicious applications. The app will also scan links to provide protection against web fishing. Microsoft Defender on Windows acts more like a dashboard instead of trying to replace the built-in Windows security application. You can view your existing antivirus protection from Norton, McAfee, or other vendors, and manage and view security protections across all devices.

Microsoft Defender also includes security alerts and tips on multiple devices, though the tips are only available on Windows and macOS.
The app seems to be superfluous for many, but it will be useful for those who want to protect family members and various devices on a simple dashboard. Microsoft promises more features along the way.
“Expanding our security portfolio with Microsoft Defender for People is a natural and exciting step forward in our journey as a security company,” said Vasu Jakkal, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of security. “This is just the beginning. As we look forward to it, we will continue to bring together more protections in a single dashboard, including features such as identity theft protection and secure online connection.”
