Uh … are you Jon Gruden? Image: Getty Images
Against all odds, the disgraced former Raiders coach Jon Gruden has garnered some public support, albeit resentful and conditional, in his fight against Roger Goodell and the NFL. Don’t think you could get back from the racist, sexist, homophobic, and insulting emails that leaked last year, and “coming back” could be a stretch for what’s really going on, since there’s virtually no possibility that Gruden does. He will never again find a job as a coach or in the media, but we have been struck by his attempt to eliminate the rest of the NFL and his unwitting help in Brian Flores’ discrimination lawsuit.
People want to see how the world burns, and if he is the one in the party, so be it.
Now, having avoided dismissal and refereeing the league after a judge ruled that his criminal interference case could go to trial yesterday, Gruden and the NFL are facing a major decision. Either the case will be settled by the NFL through a payment from the owners, or it will move to the pre-trial discovery period, which is where the good stuff comes in, as its attorneys will begin gathering evidence to try to prove that Roger Goodell leaked the Gruden’s emails in a retaliatory move.
If Gruden is content with what the NFL owners are willing to pay him, which, if we have to guess, is enough that Gruden’s great-grandchildren don’t have to work a single day in their lives. quadruple-besnéts). will end up needing to find a job) – will be a disappointing, if not predictable, end to the saga.
It all comes down to whether he does it for money or in an attempt to bring everyone down with him, and if it’s the latter, this will get interesting. Gruden, of course, is hurt by these emails and the feelings behind them, but there’s no way he’s the only one in the league who says or writes shit like that. This kind of rhetoric is not born in a vacuum, especially knowing some of the other questionable reputations throughout the NFL (looking at you, Dan Snyder).

One can only hope that he is angry and avenged enough that he refuses to conform. The NFL obviously plans to appeal, but in a decision by Nevada Judge Nancy Allf, it stated that it was “concerned that the commissioner had the sole power to resolve any employee disputes.”
This is especially interesting because Gruden, without even wanting to do so, could be helping Dolphins ex-coach Brian Flores move forward with his claim of racial discrimination against the NFL. Although Flores ‘case is being heard in the New York court system, the Nevada judge’s decision sets an interesting precedent for Flores’ class action lawsuit: a guy who is much easier to support in his case. efforts since he is not, you know, openly fanatical. These cases may be the best chance we have of seeing NFL leadership uncovered, but again, it’s the NFL, so let’s keep our expectations under control.
