Winnipeg police say a man has died after being shot by police in an “incident involving an officer” on Friday evening.
Police said in a press release that at around 4.15pm on Friday, a member of the Winnipeg Police Service “had an incident involving an officer” with a man in the Salter Street and Mountain Avenue area.
Police said the man was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.
No other details were disclosed.
Several police vehicles were at the scene Friday night while officers had recorded a large stretch of Salter Street.
On social media, police said that while there are no security issues for the public, people are being asked to avoid the area.
Police said Salter Street between St. Johns Avenue and College Avenue, and Mountain Avenue on Powers Street have been closed.
Police said the Manitoba Independent Investigation Unit has been notified and is investigating.
