The opening of the Toronto East End Pool has been delayed until late July

Toronto City Council says a Donald D. Summerville swimming pool in The Beaches has been delayed from opening during the summer due to significant damage discovered while preparing for the summer season.

Officials said staff discovered unexpected damage to the 25-meter training pool and 50-meter Olympic pool liners caused by inclement weather in winter.

“To ensure that the facilities can be opened for the 2022 season, staff are speeding up the replacement of the emergency liner for the 25-meter pool,” officials said in a statement released Friday.

They said the 50-meter pool will not be open for the 2022 season, as staff cannot obtain and install the pool liner on time.

The 50-meter pool is expected to be repaired as part of a 2023 pool improvement project, City Council said.

However, officials said the 25-meter pool and diving pool at Donald D. Summerville, near Lake Shore Boulevard East and Woodbine Avenue, are expected to be open to the public in late July.

Pool repairs do not affect toilets and food vendors.

Some outdoor pools are scheduled to open this Saturday, June 18, and the rest will open on June 30.
